The wait is over. American Staffing Association (ASA) on 14th September marked the beginning of the National Staffing Week and announced Linda Cardenas as the 2021 National Staffing Employee of the Year. She is a front-line CoVID-19 Nurse who worked as a contract nurse in different facilities during the pandemic. Cardenas will be officially awarded during the Virtual Staffing World Meet that is to be held on October 19-22.

National Staffing Week - Virtual World 2020

ASA president, Richard Wahlquist, describes Cardenas as a wonderful altruistic and caring human being, who joined her healthcare staffing agency four years back in 2016.

Her first assignment was with the Round Lake Beach, IL, school district as a contract substitute school nurse. Very quickly she established a great rapport with the students and teachers at all of the schools where she was assigned. In August 2017, Cardenas bridged to a permanent role as a school nurse there.

When her school district shuttered this spring due to the pandemic, Cardenas rapidly pivoted professionally to serve as a contract nurse at long-term care nursing facilities in her geographic area where multiple cases of Covid-19 were known to be present.

Despite the type of work and environment differing drastically from school nursing and putting her in a potentially dangerous situation health-wise, Cardenas stepped up and has been filling as many shifts as she can―including overtime, if necessary. A staffing hero, Cardenas is providing crucial health care support to nursing home residents in this very challenging time.

ASA also announced National Staffing Employee of the Year All-Stars in the other staffing and recruiting industry sectors.

  2. Darius Bowles, Industrial Sector All-Star
  3. Laura Line, Office–Clerical and Administrative Sector All-Star
